Laie is a peaceful little town located on the northeastern tip of the island of Oahu, between Kahuku and Hauula. The Polynesian village of Laie is home to the Brigham Young University Hawaii campus, and is right next door to the famous Polynesian Cultural Center. Laie Bay is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and provides safe swimming, fishing, skin diving, snorkeling over a coral reef, boating, water skiing and wind surfing. Laie is just minutes from Turtle Bay and excellent surfing at Sunset Beach. Other nearby attractions includes Malaekahana Beach Park and Malaekahana State Park, the Mormon Laie Hawaii Temple, famous Hukilau Beach, Clissold’s Beach, and Laie Point. And located at the southern end of Laie is Pounder’s Beach, named for its pounding surf, and which is perfect for bodysurfing. For the adventurous, there is a moderate, two-hour hike to Laie Falls, which takes you through thick, tropical foliage, with beautiful views of the ocean every half mile or so. Once you reach the site of the secluded falls and pool, you can cool down with a refreshing swim before heading back to town.

Laie Weather & Climate

Oahu has a moderate tropical climate that is influenced by the warm Pacific Ocean and northeasterly trade winds. Temperatures vary little from place to place, except at higher elevations. Unlike the temperature, rainfall does vary according to location. The most rainfall is usually received on the east (windward) side of the island due to moisture-laden oceanic trade winds. Humidity is moderate, but usually not uncomfortable because the temperatures are so mild. The other major influencing weather factor in the Hawaiian Islands is orographic (caused by the mountains.) The higher the elevation, the greater the extremes in climate. Therefore, keep in mind that it can be 80 degrees along the coast, but 60 degrees in the mountains.
