Hauula
is on the northeastern coast of Oahu in a fairly rural area, away from the tourist traps. However, this is one of the best spots on the island for snorkeling! There is a coral reef approximately a quarter of a mile off shore, perfect for swimming and diving. The long shallow area before you reach the deep water is a nice place for children to swim. Fishing is also popular in the area, and you can watch locals catch lobster and squid right off the reef. Other activities in the area include kayaking, horseback riding, and lots of spectacular hiking trails in the Hauula Loop Trail, the Koolau Mountains and Sacred Falls State Park. Hauula is a warm, friendly town that is Old Hawaii in nature. You will find country cottages and beachfront accommodations for rent in the area, as well as shopping and delicious local eateries. Hauula is also famous for being the spot where “Baywatch” was filmed, and you are just five minutes away from the world-famous Polynesian Cultural Center and 20 minutes from Honolulu.

Oahu has a moderate tropical climate that is influenced by the warm Pacific Ocean and northeasterly trade winds. Temperatures vary little from place to place, except at higher elevations. Unlike the temperature, rainfall does vary according to location. The most rainfall is usually received on the east (windward) side of the island due to moisture-laden oceanic trade winds. Humidity is moderate, but usually not uncomfortable because the temperatures are so mild. The other major influencing weather factor in the Hawaiian Islands is orographic (caused by the mountains.) The higher the elevation, the greater the extremes in climate. Therefore, keep in mind that it can be 80 degrees along the coast, but 60 degrees in the mountains.
