Sharks Cove
is located on Oahu’s magnificent North Shore, between Sunset Beach and Waimea Bay. In the wintertime, this area has some of the largest waves in the world, but in summer time, it is calm and boosts some of the best snorkeling on the island. You will find reefs with caves, lava tubes and fantastic coral outcroppings. Depths in this area run to 60 feet, but diving is easy and it’s often used as a training area for scuba diving. The entry into the ocean at Shark’s Cove is protected from waves and swells, making it a great place in summertime for kids to play and catch crabs, explore tidepools and swim in the shallow area. You will also find miles of hiking trails, biking, glider rides, and horseback riding near Sharks Cove. And depending on the time of year, you can also attend surfing competitions, go whale watching or swim with the dolphins. Other points of interest in the Sharks Cove area are the Botanical Park at Waimea Bay, historic Haleiwa Town and world-famous Turtle Bay Resort. The North Coast of Oahu is one of the most desirable places on the island, and has some of the most spectacular sunsets with panoramic views of the ocean, coastline and mountains. And, if you seek a little more action and nightlife, Honolulu is just a 45 minute drive away.

The island of Oahu%u2019s climate has its%u2019 greatest contrast between the dry season, which extends from May through October, and the wet season, November through April. Major widespread rainstorms, which account for the bulk of the precipitation in the area, usually occur nearly every day during the wet season, but are infrequent in the dry season. There is very little variation in temperature, except at the higher elevations. In summer, it is cooler at elevations over 2,000 feet. The temperature drops three degrees for every 1000 feet of elevation. It also rains more in the mountains and the upcountry areas, especially on the windward, or east side. Prevailing trade winds keep temperatures from becoming sweltering during the summer months.
