Kainalu
is located on the east end of the island of Molokai, often called “The Friendly Island” of Hawaii. Many consider this the “real” Hawaii – not a lot of glitz and glamour like you’ll find on some of the other islands, but instead you’ll find a place that almost seems lost in time. Kainalu has pristine, gleaming white sand beaches, brilliant blue water and swaying palms. It’s a peaceful and relaxing place, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in activities. For those who are so inclined, you will find plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. There are also five golf courses near Kainalu. Unique attractions include visiting a coffee plantation, a macadamia nut farm or a tropical flower farm. In December through April, the quiet beaches of Kainalu are perfect for whale watching. The east end of Molokai has secluded beaches and no building on the entire island is higher than a palm tree. Likewise, there are no traffic lights on Molokai because automobile traffic is so light. Kalaupapa is a peninsula on the island of Molokai, where the climate is greatly influenced by the warm Pacific Ocean and prevailing northeasterly trade winds. Temperatures vary little from place to place %u2013 basically it is warm and wonderful year round, rarely going seven or eight degrees above or below 75. In winter, which runs December through March, you are more likely to experience a rainy day. The island of Molokai receives 27 inches of rainfall per year. Spring, summer and fall days are all very similar %u2013 warm but cooled by the trade winds. Severe storms are rare on Hawaii, but drought is possible when there are no winter storms or no trade winds. However, it rarely affects an entire island at one time.
