Kapalua
is located on the northwestern coast of Maui and is considered the island’s premier golf resort. Kapalua enjoys one of Hawaii’s best gold-sand beaches, and sits right next to two bays that are marine-life preserves. You’ll find fabulous surfing here in wintertime and three of the best golf courses on the islands. There is also tennis, hiking to gorgeous waterfalls in the West Maui Mountains, or wide-open spaces that include a rain forest preserve. Just north of Kapalua is the D. T. Fleming County Park, a popular spot for boogie boarding, swimming and picnicking. Kapalua has shops with art, artifacts and clothing that feature the world-famous Kapalua butterfly logo and fine restaurants featuring mouthwatering local cuisine. You can even attend an art school where you can learn local crafts! Kapalua is also home to a working pineapple plantation, which you can tour. No other place on Maui is better for exploring the island’s natural beauty, pristine forests, turquoise ocean, misty mountains and wide open pineapple fields!

The northwestern tip of Maui is one of the driest and most sunny spots on the island. This region receives only about 12 to 15 inches of rainfall per year, mostly in the winter months, as compared to Hana on the east side which receives 90 inches per year. The prevailing trade winds serve to keep temperatures very pleasant and comfortable, even during the warmest months. The winds are from the northeast at about 5-15 miles per hour. Humidity is moderate to high, but due to the natural ventilation of the winds, the weather is seldom oppressive. In winter, Kona winds come from the opposite direction and usually indicate that bad weather is on the way. However, severe storms are rare on Maui.
