Ninole is a small village located on the eastern "windward" side of The Big Island, between Honohina and Weloka. Blessed with more rainfall per year than any other region in the U.S. makes this area truly a wonderland of natural beauty. Ninole, along the famed Hamakua Coast, is just a short drive to many of the island's most beautiful sites, including Akaka Falls State Park, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, the old Hawaii towns of Honokaa and Honomu, and the acclaimed Waipo Valley. The city of Hilo is approximately 25 minutes south of Ninole, with its historical old town, shopping, farmers markets and fine restaurants. Some of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii are along the Hamakua Coast, with swimming, snorkeling, surfing, hiking, horseback riding, golf and more available to visitors. Hapuna Beach, which is considered Hawaii's most beautiful white sand beach, is just over an hour away. For quiet beauty and Aloha charm, Ninole, with its central location on the spectacular Hamakua Coast of The Big Island, is a perfect paradise retreat.

Ninole Weather & Climate

The east coast of The Big Island is one of the wettest regions in Hawaii with over 130 inches of rainfall each year. Due to the amount of precipitation, tropical rainforest and steep forested mountains also make it one of the most beautiful. The area right along the coast has temperatures that vary little because the thousands of miles of ocean surrounding the island moderates both air and water temperatures. However, the higher in elevation you go, the more extreme the temperatures. This means it can be 80 degrees at the beach and only 50 at the mountain summits. Due to moisture laden oceanic tradewinds, expect rainfall almost every day on the windward east coast, although showers generally occur in the evening hours and are short, especially during the summer months. Occasionally hurricanes reach Hawaii, although they are less frequent on the islands than in the South Pacific.
