Waimanalo
is a peaceful little town located along Highway 72 on the southeastern coast of Oahu. It’s just thirty minutes away from the Honolulu Airport and Waikiki, but feels much further away in spirit. Just south of town is Waimanalo Beach, which is five miles of soft white sand and is known as one of the most beautiful beaches on Oahu. There is a grassy area with picnic tables and benches that leads down to the shoreline and makes a great spot for a picnic after a day in the sun. The waves are not huge here, so it’s safe for swimming and body boarding. Sea Life Park is located in Waimanalo at Makapuu Point. This fascinating park contains a 300,000-gallon aquarium that houses all sorts of sea life found on Pacific reefs. There is also an amphitheater with dolphins and whales that perform, as well as The Pacific Whaling Museum, a snack bar and souvenir shop. Other nearby points of interest includes the Makapuu Lighthouse and Makapuu Beach Park, and the famous snorkeling beach at Hanauma Bay. Waimanalo is also home to Correa Trails, where you can explore Hawaii’s natural beauty on horseback in the Koolau Mountains. Visitors can ride through the winding trails on the ranch’s 105 acres that overlooks Oahu’s stunning southern coastline. If you are looking for a tranquil spot away from the crowds, visit tranquil Waimanalo.

Waimanalo Weather & Climate

Southeastern Oahu has a tropical climate with gentle northeasterly tradewinds and warm temperatures year-round. Temperatures vary little, except at higher elevations. Unlike the temperature, Hawaii%u2019s rainfall varies tremendously according to location. The highest amount of rainfall is usually at moderate elevations on the windward (east) sides of the islands and is due to moisture-laden oceanic tradewinds. Leeward (western) locations are drier, because they are shielded from the damp winds by mountains. Rain and windstorms are more frequent during Hawaii%u2019s winter months, but they generally clear up within 24 hours. Humidity on Oahu is moderate, but the cooling winds keep things quite comfortable and pleasant. Severe storms such as hurricanes or tropical storms, make landfall in the Central Pacific, on average, every 8 to 10 years.
