Ko Olina is located on the sunny western side of Oahu. Seven crescent shaped lagoons make up the shoreline of Ko Olina and the impressive Waianae Mountains stand guard in the background. Ko Olina was once the playground for Hawaii’s royal family, and with its miles and miles of sandy shoreline, and immaculately kept grounds, Ko Olina today is a great place for families. There are several beautiful parks and shady picnic areas beneath towering palm trees where you can enjoy the sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Ko Olina is home to a world-class resort and spa, and the Ted Robinson championship golf course is here, along with an exquisite 43-acre marina. Ko Olina is a good place for beginning snorkeling and other outdoors activities abound, including swimming, boating and sailing, wind surfing, biking, tennis, golf and there are miles of walking paths that curve along the beautiful shoreline, very suitable for hiking. Ko Olina has four protected coves that are very nice for a peaceful swim in their crystal blue waters, or you might want to simply sit back and enjoy the sound of the waves gently lapping the shoreline. Ko Olina is also just as shore drive to the best restaurants, shopping and nightlife on the island.

Ko Olina Weather & Climate

The leeward side of the island of Oahu is considered the sunny side with a warm, dry year round climate. The Koolaus and Waianae Mountain Ranges shape the flow of the prevailing northeasterly tradewinds, causing local variations in wind direction and rainfall. Basically, the trade winds pick up less moisture as they move west across the central plain between the two mountain ranges, and as a result, showers on the leeward side are light, especially in the summertime. The official rainy season is October to March. When winds become southerly on the leeward coast (referred to as %u201CKona Winds,%u201D) interior clouds often extend higher in vertical height than trade wind clouds. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are then possible, especially after the second day of Kona Winds. Severe weather, however, is rare on the island of Oahu, as a whole.
