Kapolei
is a fast growing city on Oahu’s leeward side, near the town of Ko Olina and just a 25-minute drive from the Honolulu International Airport. The Kapolei region is home to the state’s largest industrial park, and is quickly becoming known as “Hawaii’s e-City,” with businesses of all sizes being drawn to this thriving metropolis. It is expected to someday rival the city of Honolulu. Kapolei is also home to the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, which is 25 acres of exciting water rides, restaurants, an arcade and souvenir shop. Golfers will certainly enjoy Kapolei’s eight golf courses, and the city has four more in the planning. Fifteen miles of bikeways are within the Kapolei region, and as the city grows, more bikeways are to be integrated into the city’s street’s that connect with neighboring communities. Other things to do in Kapolei include shopping and dining on local cuisine or at gourmet five star restaurants, Picnicking is very enjoyable at one of the many beautiful parks in the area. Take time to indulge your senses at the Ko Olina Harbor by hiking along miles of breathtaking shoreline with the blue Pacific lapping at your feet. You can rent a sailboat, go diving or snorkeling, or simply relax on a sunny beach. Kapolei is a fun-filled place with a nice mix of big city amenities and small beach town activities.

Kapolei Weather & Climate

The leeward side of the island of Oahu is considered the sunny side with a warm, dry year round climate. The Koolaus and Waianae Mountain Ranges shape the flow of the prevailing northeasterly tradewinds, causing local variations in wind direction and rainfall. Basically, the trade winds pick up less moisture as they move west across the central plain between the two mountain ranges, and as a result, showers on the leeward side are light, especially in the summertime. The official rainy season is October to March. When winds become southerly on the leeward coast (referred to as %u201CKona Winds,%u201D) interior clouds often extend higher in vertical height than trade wind clouds. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are then possible, especially after the second day of Kona Winds. Severe weather, however, is rare on the island of Oahu, as a whole.
