Makakilo
is a growing community on Oahu’s sunny southwestern shore. It is conveniently located near several beautiful recreational sites, including Barber’s Point, Kapolei Regional Park, Kamokila Park, Kahe Point Beach Park, and Piliokahe Beach Park. You can choose among swimming, surfing, snorkeling and diving, deep-sea fishing or pier fishing, hiking or mountain climbing. And for those who love golf, there are seven courses within a 15-mile radius of Makakilo! Within the community you will find convenient shopping at the Makakilo Shopping Center and the Makakilo Neighborhood Center, as well as restaurants and movie theaters. Just a short drive south, and you are in the city of Kapolei, which is Hawaii’s fastest growing city and home to the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, gourmet restaurants, souvenir and gift shops. Makakilo is minutes from all the attractions on the “leeward” side of Oahu, and offers comfort and convenience at affordable prices. You can relax in your own island paradise and enjoy both mountain and ocean views, yet have more privacy away from the crowds and tourist traps of the more populated Oahu cities.

Makakilo Weather & Climate

The leeward side of the island of Oahu is considered the sunny side with a warm, dry year round climate. The Koolaus and Waianae Mountain Ranges shape the flow of the prevailing northeasterly tradewinds, causing local variations in wind direction and rainfall. Basically, the trade winds pick up less moisture as they move west across the central plain between the two mountain ranges, and as a result, showers on the leeward side are light, especially in the summertime. The official rainy season is October to March. When winds become southerly on the leeward coast (referred to as %u201CKona Winds,%u201D) interior clouds often extend higher in vertical height than trade wind clouds. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are then possible, especially after the second day of Kona Winds. Severe weather, however, is rare on the island of Oahu, as a whole.
