Opihihale
is located on the Kona Coast (western side) of The Big Island, just south of the Kailua-Kona region. This tranquil area lies in the Big Island’s more secluded countryside, with none of the hustle and bustle of the tourist resorts, yet it’s only minutes to the beach. The nearby Kailua-Kona coast is the center for a lot of activities, such as golf, parasailing, surfing, fishing and whale watching, swimming with the dolphins, windsurfing and snorkeling. The town of Kailua-Kona, along the Kailua Bay is known for its’ deep-sea fishing excursions, sunset bay cruises and even submarine excursions. Also, the warm water and lack of currents along the Bay make it very good for swimming. Other things to do in the Opihihale area include visiting historical sights such as the grounds of King Kamehameha’s temple, and the Mokuaikaua Church, built in the year 1830. The town of Captain Cook, where the infamous Captain was killed, is also near Opihihale. To enjoy some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery and the finest in diving, surfing, fishing and other outdoor sports, yet avoid the crowds; consider Opihihale for your Big Island vacation.
