Poipu Beach
is located on the sunny south shore of the island of Kauai. This beach community is known for their clean and safe beaches, friendly residents and wide variety of recreational activities. In the summer time Poipu Beach is known to have the best waves for surfing, and it’s also great for swimming, snorkeling, boating or almost any other water sport you can think of! Ocean gear can be rented across the street from Poipu Beach Park, where you’ll also find a restaurant, gift shop, showers, rest rooms, and picnic tables. There are grassy areas with playground equipment, as well as a small protected cove perfect for small children. Brennecke’s Beach at Poipu is famous for their boogie boarding and is known as the “body surfing Capital of Hawaii.” Other nearby non-beach activities include hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Two championship golf courses are located at Poipu, and several others are just a short drive away. Other points of interest in Poipu include a tour of the Moir Gardens with their large collection of succulent plants and cacti, and a visit to the Poipu Shopping Village with its colorful variety of shops and services, and entertainment.

Southwestern Kauai is the sunniest, driest part of the island. The northern part around Hanalei is the rainiest. With warm, gentle temperatures and cooling tradewinds, the climate on Kauai is never too hot or oppressive. The biggest contrast in the weather is the difference in the amount of rainfall between the rainy season of winter (October through March,) and the dry summer season (April through September.) There is very little variation in temperature, except in higher elevations where it is cooler year round. Overall, you will find more variation in temperature with location, rather than season. On the island of Kauai, the waters are calmer in the summers and the tradewinds blow more frequently. Storms such as hurricanes are infrequent, although the threat does exist.
