Kohala Ranch
is an exclusive, four thousand-acre, gate-protected community on the northwest side of The Big Island, just north of the Kailua Kona Coast. This sun-drenched region offers some of the best beaches, world-class golf, deep-sea fishing and snorkeling in the world. Other recreational activities include hiking, horseback riding and helicopter tours of Volcano National Park and The Waipio Valley. Kohala Ranch is just minutes to the historic town of Hawi, located right at the northern tip of The Big Island. It is considered the main hub of the North Kohala Region and has become a haven for artists and retirees. You will find plenty of shopping and fine restaurants in Hawi, as well as craft shops and art galleries, and a very good coffee/ice cream shop, natural food store, post office and country grocery store. Other nearby attractions include a weekly farmer’s market, the black sand beaches of Pololu Valley, the Mauna Kea Resort and whale watching tours. Traveling the other direction from Kohala Ranch (south) are the towns of Kawaihae and Puako. Points of interest include the Garden of Pua Mau Place and historic petroglyphs. The region surrounding Kohala Ranch also has the distinction of being the sunniest spot on the Big Island, with the least average rainfall per year.
